The Museum of the City of New York is a history and art museum in Manhattan that aims to preserve and present the history of New York City, and its people. Its exhibition entitled Activist New York, explores a range of activist stories in New York City. They wanted to produce an exhibition catalog that would also serve as educational material for students of all ages.
The book is a thorough, richly visual timeline of the history of activism in New York City, divided into six sections. Each section opens with a spread whose design is inspired by traditional newspaper announcements, while each chapter employs color as a navigation tool. The typography was inherited from the exhibition design to create a visible connection between the two.
I designed the book with Yeryung Ko under the direction of Michael Gericke. You can purchase a copy here.
